Normally when updating Slackare I run:

slackpkg update
slackpkg upgrade-all

Having just installed the latest Slackware on a new system, is the above all
that's necessary or is it recommended to do all the following:

slackpkg update
slackpkg install-new
slackpkg upgrade-all
slackpkg clean-system

Thanks,

According to the slackpkg manual, before running upgrade-all, one should
remember to use the "install-new" action.

Naturally I ran 'slackpkg update' first of all.

However, for a current installation, nothing new comes up before running
upgrade-all. And running upgrade-all initially broke some X-related function
("error while loading shared libraries: libxfont2.so.2 slackware") which
were fixed by themeselves after running 'slackpkg install-new'.

This only happened on the 32 bit Slackware. On the 64 bit version upgrade-
all did not break anything.

The latter is correct.

From slackpkg(8):

Slackpkg can be used to upgrade the whole distribution.
The usual way is to do:

# slackpkg update
# slackpkg install-new
# slackpkg upgrade-all
# slackpkg clean-system
